Industry FocusTD Banknorth Project Finance's investments in clean energy and infrastructure total over $450 million, representing over 100 successful projects in current operation. Our professional staff is experienced in developing financing solutions for large and small projects in a variety of industries. Specific areas of lending focus include the following: Bio-Fuels Production
Scalable production facilities built to cost effectively meet the growing demand for cleaner burning and renewable bio-diesel and ethanol fuels. Facilities range in size from those intended to meet "own use" needs to industrial scale production facilities designed to produce commercial volumes of high quality renewable fuels. Additional revenues are available from sales of co-products such as glycerin from bio-diesel production and food additives, sweeteners and animal feed, all from ethanol production.
Distributed Power Generation
Scalable electric power generation projects providing highly reliable and efficient on-site power to plant owners at a lower cost than purchasing from the local utilities. Additional revenue enhancement is often achieved via surplus power sales to utilities during "peak" demand times, or through receipt of discounts from utilities on remaining incremental power purchases.
Gas Fired Cogeneration
From "own use" to utility scale facilities, these projects generate both steam and electricity for use in co-located process facilities. These projects are capable of achieving a much higher fuel efficiency than a typical simple cycle utility generator, thereby producing more energy and less pollution for each unit of gas used. Additional revenue enhancement can be achieved from sales of surplus electricity to the local utility.
Geothermal Power Generation
Projects utilizing geothermal fluid to produce electricity with little if any greenhouse gas production.
Hydroelectric Power Generation
Projects designed to utilize local renewable water resources in an environmentally-friendly manner to produce electric power. These can also provide municipal and recreational water resource opportunities where geographic and social factors allow.
Landfill Gas Recovery and Utilization
Attractive opportunities provided by the recovery of methane gas from landfills include direct sale of gas, electric power generation, and liquefaction for use as fuel. Scalable power generation projects provide a clean source of renewable electric power for sale to local utilities, while liquefaction projects provide a low cost fuel source for LNG vehicles. LFG Power projects can produce additional returns for investors through the sales of Section 29 Renewable Energy Tax Credits when available.
Pipelines
Projects providing transmission capacity to shippers under firm transportation agreements for distribution of a variety of compatible products.
Wind Energy
Electric power generation projects which are located in areas with predictable wind resources and access to energy markets.
Electric Distribution and Transmission Infrastructure
Scalable and readily deployable electric power transmission and distribution solutions that are capable of delivering cost-effective, efficient and environmentally-sound power to a constrained customer base. To meet energy demands, these highly-advanced delivery systems are designed to take advantage of numerous power-generating resources. Thus, transmission and distribution projects are able to provide the customer with lower-cost and potentially more environmentally-friendly power with a higher degree of reliability.
