Security Alert

What happened?

TD Banknorth is currently the target of a phishing scam where recipients of this phishing e-mail are being directed to a fraudulent website that is telling the user they must install a new digital certificate update for enhanced login security for WebExpress/Online Banking. This site does not update WebExpress/Online Banking and will automatically attempt to install malicious software (malware) on the victim's computer. The malware will monitor Internet traffic, intercept information typed into web forms and send this information back to the criminals behind the attack.

How does this impact me?

If you have visited this fraudulent website and/or installed the "update," you have most likely infected your computer with malicious software. These malware tools may capture your personal or financial information and send that information to the attacker. Fraudulent e-mail that includes links and/or attachments may contain computer viruses and/or keystroke loggers and should not be clicked on or opened. And remember, TD Banknorth will never ask a customer to confirm their account number, PIN, password or any other personal information via e-mail.

How can I find out more information?

If you believe you have responded to this e-mail and installed the malware, you should ensure that you have the latest updates from your anti-virus vendor and run a full system scan. Please note that not all anti-virus vendors receive or update the latest virus signatures at the same time, therefore you should configure your anti-virus software to automatically update and scan your computer on a regular basis. As always, you should closely monitor your accounts for suspicious activity. If you feel that you are the victim of fraud or identity theft, please contact our Direct Banking department immediately at 800-893-8554. For more information, please refer to our Online Security Center.
*Please note that the Bank is not responsible for e-mails or links that customers receive from third parties and, while we can suggest some possible protections as outlined above, we can make no guarantees that these measures will completely remove any malicious software from their computers.
