What happened?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) notified TD Banknorth that there has been a breach of customer data on their website. A database containing information about funding recipients, including a 15-digit identification number that incorporates the recipients' Social Security numbers, was exposed on the website, but has subsequently been removed.

How does this impact me?

Approximately 38,700 individuals who receive USDA funding from the Farm Services Agency and USDA Rural Development have been impacted. However, the USDA has no evidence that this information has been misused in any way. The USDA is in the process of notifying those impacted, via mail, and offering them free credit monitoring for one year.
